Snap, Crackle, Pop

Be honest. If you have ever eaten Rice Krispies, undoubtedly you have bent over and put your ear to the bowl to listen to the sound of the “Snap, Crackle & Pop.” And if your cereal got soggy, then you would OBVIOUSLY pour more Rice Krispies into your bowl in search of the sounds you expected to hear. That’s just the way it goes.
This is the picture that came to my mind the Saturday morning after my first 4 Keys to Hearing God’s voice class. Let me say that even as a staff member I was skeptical of two-way journaling: Why did I need to picture Jesus and then record what He was saying? He has said a lot to me already. I had always relied on my knowledge of the Scriptures to constitute God’s voice until Mark Virkler taught us that “God’s voice is like spontaneous thoughts lighting up on your mind.” Woohoo!, I could be super random and still be heaven bound? There was nothing wrong with how thoughts would just come to my mind? In fact, I found that it was like listening to the sound of Rice Krispies in a bowl. Finally, I yielded to the process: I quieted myself down, pictured something, tuned into flow, and . . ., I was able to hear God speak! He spoke something so beautiful to me that I am still trying to work through the understanding of it.
Here is what this experience taught me:
God does speak. You just have to position yourself to hear—even if it means getting closer to the bowl. Don’t allow distractions to disrupt your posture. Knowing God = forever relationship goals.
Determine what you are willing to give to hear God’s voice. I promise you that it will cost you something: milky hair from leaning in a little too far into your bowl or the discomfort of feeling far out in your faith journey.
