A boundary is a personal “property line” that marks everything for which we are — and are not — responsible. Many people, in order to call themselves “good Christians,” have drawn overly flexible boundaries and are unwilling to say “no,” always accommodating others’ needs. Others set overly rigid boundaries to keep everything “out,” to the point of being righteous and judgmental. Neither of these types of boundaries is healthy.

This video series by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend will help you recognize boundaries and how they define each of us. In each session, students will discuss when to say “yes” and how to say “no” in order to take control of their lives. You will be challenged to examine your own boundaries and to make the changes necessary for balancing freedom with responsibility.

If you struggle with setting healthy boundaries, or want to be empowered to say “no,” contact us to sign up for a class on Boundaries here in Richmond.

Changes that Heal

How do people develop emotional and relational problems? What can be done to solve them for good?

Based on the bestselling book Changes that Heal by Dr. Henry Cloud, this course answers these questions by taking you through four basic tasks that lead you to becoming a mature “image bearer” of God. These tasks include bonding to others, separating from others, sorting out good and bad in ourselves and others, and becoming an adult. In each lesson, you will learn about what problems stem from failing to take these steps, and what life changes you can make to bring about healing, growth, and maturity.

Elijah House Richmond

You have the choice. Your past contains a wealth of relationships, experiences, lessons and hurts. You can choose to learn from them and use them as a foundation for a victorious future. You can also choose to let them use you—tainting your current relationships and hindering your ability to be and do what God wants you to be and do.

Elijah House School of Ministry was founded with the mandate to restore the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers (Malachi 4:5-6). This is being accomplished by equipping the saints with biblical tools founded upon universal laws in the Word of God, to enable discernment of root issues and allow true healing.

Sunodía offers Elijah House in Richmond, Va., including courses 201 and 202. Both are heartening paths to healing and community; students will learn healing principles by giving their own past hurts to the Lord in a small group context. Classes occur over three modules of 8-week classes.

Elijah House School of Ministry 201 will help students become acquainted with prayer counseling, discover how past relationships and events affect their lives today, and learn how they can address them and find healing.

Elijah House School of Ministry 202 will lead students deeper in understanding issues that affect the lives of believers. If you believe that you have been called by God to minister healing to the broken-hearted through prayer counseling, continuing on in Course 202 is highly recommended! You will improve your prayer counseling skills by continuing to apply what you learned in course 201 during small group meetings.

Generational Healing

When medical doctors ask their patients to provide any history of illness in their families, it’s because they understand how family histories indicate predispositions to certain illnesses and diseases. In the same way, patterns of sin or curses in our family lines may indicate predispositions toward certain sins or curses. In this course, you will begin to understand and recognize inherited strongholds, and learn how to pray to remove generational curses.

Healing the Hearts of our Children

Were you wounded and dishonored as a child? Are you afraid that you have done – or are doing – the same to your children? Do you think it’s too late to repair your relationship with your children?

In these lessons, Mark and Maureen Sandford of Elijah House Ministries deliver a message of hope — that it’s not too late for parents to heal their children’s hearts at any age. From tips for new parents in healthy training of children, to the repair of spiritual injuries to adult children, these lessons shift the focus from who to blame for what has gone wrong to how to restore honor and Godly interactions to family relationships.

These teachings will equip not only young parents, but also grandparents, step-parents, foster parents, and even fatherly and motherly mentors, to become wellsprings of healing for their children’s hearts. Each lesson identifies problems, offers solutions, and poses questions to guide you in bringing wholeness to the priceless gift that is the next generation.

Healing from Shame

Do you feel like a failure all of the time, or that making mistakes is not acceptable? Do you have a constant sense of being “broken” or worthless?

If you can say “yes” to any of these questions, then you are suffering from the effects of shame. This course explores the issue of shame, primarily through discussion of the book Leaving Home—Finding Home: My Journey from Shame to Sonship through Journaling by Sunodía Director Jessie Mejias. By exploring her story, you will have the opportunity to explore your own story and uncover the roots of the shame you feel. You’ll discover how Christ can set you completely free from shame, and restore dignity and honor to your life.

Healing from Trauma

Trauma, unfortunately, is an experience that so many people face every day. It sinks into the body and soul, causing deep pain and shock that affect people’s lives for years, often on an unconscious level. You may ask yourself, “How do I heal from trauma?” or “How can I help others heal from trauma?”

Through this teaching, Sandra Sellmer Kersten of Elijah House Ministries seeks to do more than put band-aids on people who are bleeding to death emotionally. She believes that we all need to learn how to minister to trauma. This course focuses on helping people overcome trauma and discover who God always intended for them to be. You will learn how to recognize and understand trauma and its effects, and how to pray for complete healing.
